Cleaning Marble Lemon Juice Etch Marks
QUESTION:
How can I remove marks put on my marble counter tops by lemon juice and other liquids spilled on them? The tiles are brownish-black with white and rose, they are floor tiles that we used for the counter tops, I told the salesman what I was using them for and asked if they needed to be sealed and he told me no. Now they are dull in places and have ring marks from glasses and I don't know how to clean them.
ANSWER:
Your marble countertops have been etched by the acidic lemon juice and probably by damaging cleaning products.
Marble is not a good choice for a kitchen countertop for this reason.
Also, it has nothing to do with sealing. Sealing does not prevent etching.
Sealing helps to prevent staining... when a substance is absorbed into the countertop. To see if you need to seal all you have to do is
test it.
For the lemon juice and other glass-rings, you'll need to use
MB-11 Marble Polishing Powder to restore the color and shine.
However, if you have large and/or multiple areas of dullness from etching than you may need to hire a marble restoration professional to re-surface the tiles.
