Cleaning Marble Lamps That Yellowed
QUESTION:
I have a pair of marble lamps, Ivory in color, and need to know how to clean them. They have become yellowed and blah looking.
ANSWER:
The yellowing is most likely due to some type of coating or wax applied to the marble.
Waxing used to be a common method to enhance the shine and protect a bit, but it causes more maintenance than it is meant to prevent.
Waxing requires regular attention, stripping and re-waxing, etc. and it can turn the marble yellow.
So, first you'll have to remove any coating on the marble. I'd suggest using the
De-Greaser / Wax Remover / Stripper.
After stipping you'll be able to see the true condition and finish of the marble.
For regular marble cleaning we recommend using this
All Purpose Stone Surface Spray Cleaner.
Not all marble is meant to be shiny. Marble can have all types of different finishes with a "polished" shiny finish being only one, but very common.
So, if it looks like the mable lamps were originally polished to a shine and are not just a bit dull, then you can use the
Marble Polish / Etch Remover to bring back the shine.
Then, if you want to enhance the shine you can use a
Topical Polish/Shine Enhancer, which is far superior to waxing. Won't yellow or get dull... but this isn't necessary.
Once you get the restore the shine (if that's what you want) regular cleaning will be enough to keep looking great.
