Cleaning Marble Countertop Water Stain

by Jane Kingsley
(Fairway, KS)

QUESTION:

I have a water ring on my kitchen counter top. What can I do to get rid of it? Thanks.

ANSWER:

What you have is "etching" commonly called a "water stain" or "glass ring."

It isn't caused from water. It is the result of contact with acidic foods and liquids like juice, coffee, soda, alcohol, salad dressing, etc.

This is a common problem with marble and the reason why marble is not recommended for the kitchen.

The only prevention is to eliminate contact with acidic foods. Kind of hard in the kitchen.

Most etch marks can be removed by applying a marble polishing powder like MB-11 Marble Polish ... follow link and look under "countertop care."

It the etching is severe.... very dull and rough to the touch it may require professional restoration.

Try the polishing powder first. If that doesn't give satisfactory results then you'll have to call a pro.

Good Luck,
Ryan

granite countertop cleanerI highly recommend MB Stone Care Products to maintain all your marble, stone and granite countertops and floors in optimal condition. I've used other good products (Stone Tech, Miracle) but found MB Stone Care is the most reliable and effective.
