Cleaning Marble Coffee Table Cup Stains
QUESTION:
I have a marble top on coffee and end tables. They have become streaky and stained. How do I get it out or can I?
ANSWER:
You have two possible problems that require different solutions.
First, "stains" occur when a substance is absorbed into the marble making the spot
darker than the rest of the marble.
Removing stains requires a multi-step procedure. The cannot be cleaned using a topical spray, etc.
For removing stains, you'll find complete step-by-step instructions in the
Removing Stains Manual.
The second possibility is that you have "etching." Etching occurs when an acidic substance (coffee, soda, juice) comes in contact with marble.
Marble is sensitive to acids and harsh cleaning products. These will corrode the marble, removing the shiny polished layer and leaving a dull and
lighter spot or "glass-ring."
To remove etch marks you need to use a good compound like
SCP- Marble Polishing Paste, which I find works the best.
I don't know what you mean by "streaky" so I'm not sure what to advise there... but most commonly hazy streaks are from applying a sealer to a stone that cannot absorb it... dries on top leaving steaks.
Also, using the wrong cleaner could leave streaky etch marks I suppose. The Marble Polishing Paste will make your table look 100% better though.
Good Luck,
Ryan
