Cleaning Marble Circles & Other Marks
QUESTIONS:
I am in possession of an old wash stand with a very dirty marble top. What is the best and easiest way to wash this top? How should I care for this top in the future?
ANSWER:
The "circles" are most likely etch marks, which is corrosive damage from acidic substances and harsh cleaning products. These are not stains and cannot be "cleaned," but can be restored.
To remove etch marks use
SCP-Marble Polishing Paste.
Although before removing etch marks you should get the marble clean first.
If the marble is just generally dirty and grimy, then I'd recommend using
SCP-Deep Cleaner.
Now of course, it's possible that you also have stains (substances absorbed into the marble vs. dirt on the surface). Once below the surface, stains cannot be removed by rubbing and scrubbing.
You'll find complete step-by-step instructions how to remove marble stains in the
Removing Stains Manual.
I'd start with the DEEP Cleaner, then see what you have to deal with next. If stains are present, your next step is to get them out.
Lastly, you repair the etch marks.
For regular cleaning and marble maintenance, be sure to use only products safe for marble. I recommend
Stone Plus Cleaner.
Good Luck,
