Cleaning Marble Black Bean Stain

by Deborah
(Miami, FL, USA)

QUESTION:

We found a black bean on the marble/limestone floor that must have fallen from someone's plate. It left a stain on the floor. The color of the flooring is warm beige and the marble is antique/tumbled tiles, not honed or polished. We cleaned and sealed the marble about one year ago. Is there something that I can place on the stain to lift the grease off? Thanks.

ANSWER:

Yes, you can apply a poultice made with talc powder and acetone (buy it at your hardware store... do not use finger nail polish remover).

Mix the powder and acetone into a paste like peanut butter. Apply the poultice to stain 1/2 inch thick and cover with plastic wrap. Seal the edges with masking tape and let it sit for 24 hours.

Next day remove the plastic and leave the poultice to dry until hard. Remove the poultice and clean with hot water.

The stain will probably be gone, but you may have to repeat the process.

You may be able to clean the stain using just acetone and a soft-bristle scrub brush though... so I'd try that first and then the poultice.

Good Luck,
Ryan

granite countertop cleanerI highly recommend MB Stone Care Products to maintain all your marble, stone and granite countertops and floors in optimal condition. I've used other good products (Stone Tech, Miracle) but found MB Stone Care is the most reliable and effective.
