Cleaning Chemical Etching on Marble Countertop
QUESTION:
We have a black Marble countertop and we sat a cleaning chemical on top of the counter which then caused it to etch away at the marble and we are trying to figure out how we can fix it and get the etched mark removed.
ANSWER:
Well now you know first hand why common and even typical brand-name household cleaners cannot be used on marble countertops and floors.
Most cleaners will etch or chemically corrode marble leaving dull and light-colored "ghost spots"... even if all you do is set the bottle down on marble. More often than not residue of the chemical is present on the bottle.
Good news is that you can repair etch marks pretty quick and easy on
polished (shiny) marble using the
Marble Polish / Etch Remover made just for this issue.
It's simple to use and will restore the color and shine on all but severely etched marble (which is rough to the touch). Severe etching is rare, so you should easily be able to repair the etch spot and restore the marble to "like-new" condition.
You can also use the paste to remove light scratches and periodically over the entire surface just to spruce up the shine. It's easily the best product every marble owner should have.
A "honed" marble surface needs to be treated differently, so if your countertop is not polished, then you'll have to follow the procedure in the
Removing Etch Marks ebook or for the very best results call a marble maintenance professional to re-hone the surface.
Good Luck,
Ryan
