Cleaning Blood Off Marble Slab

by Malcolm Knight
(Chichester, U.K.)

QUESTION:

I have inherited a long marble slab, probably about 2 meters long, that was used for many years in a butchers shop. I have been told that the various blood stains etc will have soaked into the slab and probably be impossible to remove. Is that true and would it be uneconomic in any case to clean it? Thank you.

ANSWER:

Yes and no. It's true that the blood has probably absorbed to some degree and caused some staining, but it can be removed and/or restored.

You have two choices...

1. Hire a marble maintenance professional to grind down and re-finish the surface, which would remove all the stains.

This could be expensive depending on how large the surface is.

2. Remove the marble stains yourself following the step-by-step instructions in the Removing Stains Manual.

Much cheaper to do this, but could be time consuming and it's possible that deeply embedded stains (if there are any) will not come out completely.

Now, you'd like to think the butchers cleaned up daily or multiple times a day, so it's not too likely that anything was ever given the chance to stain deeply.

Hiring a pro for cleaning marble will give you the best possible result essentially restoring the surface to "new" condition.

But you may be able to get excellent results too doing it yourself if the surface isn't just wrecked.

So, you have to decide if you'd rather spend your time or your money.

Hope this helps!

Good Luck,
Ryan

I highly recommend Stone Care Pro Products to maintain all your marble, stone and granite countertops and floors in optimal condition. I've used other good products (Stone Tech, Miracle, MB) but found Stone Care Pro is the most reliable and effective and cheaper too!
