Cleaning Apple Stain On Honed Marble

QUESTION:
Hello, We installed white honed marble in our kitchen. I had some apples in a basket, and one went bad and leaked through. Now there is a gray stain on the Honed Marble....any suggestions? Thanks.
ANSWER:
Marble and marble countertops are actually quite dense and do not stain easy despite what you commonly read.
However, if a substance is left on the surface for a long time it can stain, which is why you should not store bottles of oil or any liquid directly on the countertop.
Same for fruits and veggies. Store them in a receptacle that won't leak or absorb the juices and transfer to the surface if/when they go bad. Baskets are common culprits for marble stains.
I'm sure you've tried every marble cleaning method you know with no luck. Don't feel bad. Most marble stains can be removed it just takes a special process dictated by what type of substance stained the marble.
