Ashy Exterior Marble Cleaning

by Bill
(Columbia, SC)

QUESTION:

How do I clean exterior marble that looks ashy?

ANSWER:

First, I would power wash it. Rent a power washer from Home Depot. This should take most of the accumulated grime off the surface. Be careful not to damage any grout, if present.

Also, remember that if the marble is not polished, the color will not be as clear or as saturated. Many a white marble has a gray cast to it, especially when not polished.

If not satisfied with the power wash, then I'd use a mild bleach solution (1 part bleach to 5 parts water) and scrub with a soft bristle brush.

Good Luck,
Ryan
